A supportive family can be key
Q. My baby is breastfeeding well but will not drink from a bottle, why is this?
One of the biggest challenges for a family wanting to breastfeed their baby is attaching the baby to the breast.
Many families will have the intention to breastfeed throughout the pregnancy stage, but give up soon after their baby is born because it becomes painful, or because the couple feel their baby is not getting enough milk, or that not enough milk is being produced.
The truth is, the majority of women produce more than enough milk to meet their baby’s demands; the milk is there, the baby just doesn’t know how to get it, which is why your partner may experience pain (See Myths). All of these problems can be easily avoided if you and your partner are shown how to properly attach your baby to your breast as soon as he is born. In time, your baby will be able to attach itself to your partner’s breast, but he or she may need a little guidance.
